The Moeller Freshman opened the 2019 season with a doubleheader at Corwin Nixon Park in Mason. The Crusaders took an early lead scoring 1 run in the first inning and 3 more in the second inning on leadoff base hits by starting pitcher
PJ Kaylor and
Zach Carty.
Keelan Daniel dropped down a perfect bunt for a base hit to load the bases which set up a bases clearing double from
Griff Cady. It was in the 3rd inning that the Crusader defense hit a few speed bumps. Mason scored 4 unearned runs to tie the game at 4 apiece. The added 1 more run in the 4th inning to take a 5-4 lead. Moeller had an answer scoring 3 runs in their half of the 4th inning.
Keelan Daniel leadoff with a walk,
Hayden Nelson was hit by the pitch and
Griff Cady walked to load the bases. RBI hits by
Cam Porter,
Max Tramontana and
Phillip Langenkamp sent the Crusaders to a 7-5 lead. But it was the Moeller defense that struggled today allowing miscues that lead to 5 more Mason runs. Moeller's pitchers did well striking out 11 Mason batters.
PJ Kaylor struck out 7 Mason batters in his 3 innings of work.
Zach Carty pitched 1.1 innings with 2 hits and 1 strikeout and
Ryan Benne pitched 2.2 innings allowing 3 hits and 3 strikeouts. The Moeller offense was led by
