Roettger Stadium was built in 1950 by the City of Lockland Schools as a tribute to the men and women that served in the United States Armed Forces in World War I and World War II. The stadium is named after Herald Roettger, who served as Lockland’s athletic director and coach in the 1930s.
Grein Field and Roettger Stadium is the 3rd “home stadium” in the history of Moeller Football program. The Crusaders began playing home games at Roettger Stadium in the fall of 2002, when they hosted three home games against Elder, Columbus St. Francis DeSales and Lima Senior. The Crusaders continued to play home games at Roettger Stadium until the fall of 2006, when it was decided that the grass playing surface was unsuitable to continue playing home games there. Over the next two years, Roettger Stadium went under renovation including the replacement of the grass playing surface to artificial turf after a donation from Lockland native and alum, Roger Grein and a grant from the NFL and the Cincinnati Bengals. In the fall of 2009, the Crusaders resumed playing their home games at Roettger Stadium to this date. One of the noticeable renovations that occurred to the stadium was in the fall 2017 when a new Fair-Play scoreboard was installed to replace one that had been at the stadium since the 1980’s. The Crusaders will host an all-time high five home games at Roettger Stadium this year by welcoming in Clarkson Football North (ON), Louisville Trinity (KY), Scott County (KY), Lakewood St. Edward and Winton Woods.
New Fair-Play Scoreboard that was added in the fall of 2017.
